About / Biography

Cameron graduated from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Philosophy of Art. Moving to Auckland to pursue a career in the film and television industry, he worked prolifically in the burgeoning music video business of the early 2000s helping create videos for artists such as Che Fu, Katchafire, Dawn Raid, and Bic Runga. During this time Cameron also gained valuable on-set experience working in art department on features such as “River Queen” and “The Devil Dared Me To” as well as numerous television shows, shorts, and advertisements.

Moving to Whakatū in the late 2000s, Cameron became a formative member of the Top of the South Filmmakers collective and began helping realise local filmmakers’ projects, usually as director of photography, editor, colourist, sound designer or art director. He also served as part of the focus group tasked to write the original code of conduct policy used by the Top of the South Filmmakers incorporated society.

These days Cameron concentrates on directing and producing and is one third of the Nelson-based production co-op Black Box, a self-proclaimed “socialist collective masquerading as a fascist dictatorship”.
